People were staggered to find out that Angelina Jolie (37) went through a double mastectomy to prevent herself from getting breast cancer.

Jolie has a rare defective BRCA1 gene that expose her to higher risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Both her mother had breast cancer and died of ovarian cancer. Jolie’s maternal grandmother had ovarian cancer as well.

The defective gene could bring up the chance of Jolie getting breast cancer to 87% and 54% chance to get ovarian cancer.

Jolie had to make a tough decision to lower her risk of getting cancer with the double mastectomy for the sake of her kids.

In February this year, Jolie went through three operations for the complete removal of breasts. This was when the media was buzzing with the speculation that Jolie went through liposuction and other plastic surgeries to please Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt (49) opened up in an interview with USA Today that his kids and he are trying to “make an adventure out of it,” and added, “My most proudest thing is our family.” Pitt also expressed that he is very proud of Jolie for opening up to public with the utmost honesty on her circumstances and three operations.

It was later reported that Brad Pitt was in the operation room holding Jolie’s hand during Jolie’s double mastectomy.

It is unclear at this moment if Jolie will get oophorectomy.
