BMW Group Korea broke ground Tuesday to build a driving center on Yeongjong Island, where customers can test drive vehicles. The island is home to Incheon International Airport, Korea‘s main gateway.

The BMW Driving Center, the first of its kind in Asia, will be built on 240,000 square meters of land at a total cost of 70 billion won (US$62 million), BMW Group Korea said.

Opening of the driving center is slated for the second half of next year at the earliest, it said. The driving center includes a track, customers' center, training center, service center and eco-friendly athletic park.

Officials at the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority forecast that the driving center will attract more than 100,000 people every year.

Lee Jong-cheol, commissioner of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, said the driving center will help revitalize the local economy.
