The appointment was made during an event, dubbed "The Beginning of Beautiful Trip to Guangdong," in Guangzhou, the capital of the province, Aug. 27.
During the meeting, CEOs of newspaper companies, which are members of the Overseas Chinese-Language News Media Cooperative Organization, were appointed overseas goodwill ambassadors of Guangdong. Kwak serves as a standing director of the organization.
Representatives from about 20 Chinese-language newspaper companies in 14 countries, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, the United States and Britain, participated in the Guangzhou meeting.
The event was jointly organized by the province's tourism agency, China Southern Airlines, the Guangdong office of the Wen Wei Po newspaper published in Hong Kong.
