Hong Kong director Ann Hui picked as winner of BIFF’s Asian Filmmaker of the Year award

Hong Kong director Ann Hui has been selected as winner of the Busan International Film Festival’s (BIFF) Asian Filmmaker of the Year award, the organizers said Monday.

Hui was chosen as recipient of the annual prize for her contribution to the development of the Asian film industry and her pioneering spirit manifested in the creation of masterpieces that will be remembered for ages, they said.

Ann Hui is one of the most critically acclaimed amongst the Hong Kong New Wave.

Her works include “The Secret” (1979), “The Romance of Book & Sword” (1987), “Summer Snow” (1995), “Half Life Fate” (1997) and “Simple Life” (2011).

The award ceremony will be held during the 19th BIFF slated for Oct. 2 through Oct. 11.
