Park Ji-sung, who became the first South Korean to play in English Premier League in 2005 when he joined the Manchester United Football Club, will take on an ambassadorial role for the club, reports said Wednesday.

Park, who retired from the sport last May, has recently signed a one-year contract to assume the ambassadorial post, a source familiar with the club was quoted as saying by Yonhap news agency.

Under the contract, Park will be given 150 million won in return for attending Manchester United events 10 times for a year in his capacity as ambassador for the club, the reports said.

Park would be the club's seventh ambassador. Previous ambassadors included Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, Bryan Robson, Gary Neville, Andrew Anthony Cole and Peter Schmeichel.

Park would be the first Asian to serve as ambassador for Manchester United.
