Retired figure skating queen Kim Yu-na has been named a publicity ambassador for the 2018 Winter Olympics to be held in PyeongChang, an alpine town in Gangwon Province, South Korea.

Kim, who retired from figure skating after winning silver at the Sochi Olympics last February, became the sixth publicity envoy for the Winter Games.

The 24-year-old received a plaque of appointment as a publicity ambassador for the Games from Cho Yang-ho, chairman of the 2018 Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, during a ceremony at the Korea Press Center in downtown Seoul Tuesday.

In 2009, Kim served as a publicity envoy for PyeongChang's bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Others who hold the title of publicity ambassador for the PyeongChang Winter Games include Texas Rangers outfielder Choo Shin-soo; ballerina Kang Sue-jin; novelist Lee Oi-soo; Kwon Byeong-ha, former chairman of the World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Association; and the classical music group Sejong Soloists.
