The decision came after a group claiming to have hacked Sony Pictures last month threatened moviegoers with violence reminiscent of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks of 2001. The group, calling itself the Guardians of Peace (GOP), demanded that the company cancel the upcoming release of "The Interview" scheduled for Dec. 25, Christmas Day.
The opening of the movie was originally planned for October, but was delayed due to North Korea's strong protests following the trailer's release in June.
