Samsung world's second-most valuable brand: British consultancy

Samsung continued to be the world's second-most valuable brand, a British brand valuation consultancy said Thursday (local time). 

Samsung's total brand value rose 4 percent to US$81.71 billion in 2015 from the previous year, according to the list of the most valuable brands of 2015 published by Brand Finance.

Several other South Korean brands were included in the Global 500 2015. They are Hyundai (49th), LG (98th), SK (114th), Shinhan Financial Group (184th), Kia Motors (261st), KT (289th), KB Financial Group (344th), CJ (351st), Lotte (370th), Korea Electric Power Corporation [KEPCO] (394th), Korea Gas Corporation [KOGAS] (452nd) and GS (467th).

Apple retained its top spot with a $128.30 billion brand value, up 22.6 percent from a year ago.

Google, Microsoft and Verizon retained their No. 3, 4 and 5 spots with $76.68 billion, $67.06 billion and $59.84 billion, respectively.

Also joining the ranks of the top 10 were AT&T ($58.82 billion), Amazon ($56.12 billion), GE ($48.01 billion), China Mobile ($47.91 billion) and Walmart ($46.73 billion). Toyota placed 13th with $35.01 billion, while BMW came in 15th with $33.07 billion.
