Brazil's sales of smartphones increased by 33 percent in the first quarter of 2015 year-on-year, according to a report published Tuesday.

The report by the consultant IDC Brazil said 14.1 million units were sold in the South American country during the January-March period, more than the initial projection of 13.5 million.

However, the report predicted a sales decrease in the following months due to the current slowdown in the Brazilian economy.

For 2015, IDC Brazil reduced its prediction of annual sales of smartphones in the country from 63.5 million to 58 million units due to the current economic crisis.

The report also said the prices of the latest generation of mobile phones increased by between $30 and $70 due to the U.S. dollar's growing value against the Brazilian real.
