Himalayas hit 4 million viewers

South Korean film “Himalayas” recorded accumulated viewers of 4.22 million on its 12th day of opening, topping the Korean box-office.

The epic drama set in the Himalayas, drew 1.76 million on last weekend according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), placing the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on the second rank of the box-office.

Himalayas already set a record of its opening viewers on the 16th (203,173 viewers) and set to breaking the nation’s record for fastest accumulation of viewers on its fourth day (1 million viewers), eighth day (2 million viewers), tenth day (3 million viewers) and on its 12th day.

Experts see the Himalayas syndrome as a reasonable one, considering the movie has all aspects which Korean moviegoers love. Kim Kyo-suk, a pop-culture and film critic said, “Himalayas is a film filled with comical points and heartwarming points which are cleverly distributed throughout the plot.”

“The film opening at the end-of-year season also strengthened its ticket power,” The critic added. “It’s a great time for families and friends to gather for a good film. With great actors starring in the film, it’s a magnet for Korean movie lovers.”
