McDonald's has disclosed a pilot project to open its first store this month in South Korea that serves premium hamburgers and draft beer.

The company said its new restaurant with a seating capacity of 90 would open in Seongnam, a satellite city south of Seoul. This will be Asia's first McDonald's outlet to sell beer.

McDonald's, which has already sold beer in Germany and France, hopes to open similar restaurants in other areas in Seoul if the operation of its test store in Seongnam is successful.

McDonald's sells premium "signature" burgers at more than 20 outlets in South Korea.
