Chou Tzuyu, the Taiwanese member of South Korea's multinational K-Pop girl group Twice, has passed a Taiwanese exam to certify her middle school education, her agency, JYP Entertainment, said Thursday.

JYP said Tzuyu would continue to study at a South Korean high school. She took the exam this month in her hometown Tainan to finish her middle school education without actually attending school.

In November last year, Tzuyu held the Taiwanese flag in an online-exclusive portion of MBC variety show "My Little Television", sparking fury among Chinese viewers and SNS users.

In an effort to allay anger among Chinese fans, JYP chief Park Jin-Young and Tzuyu have apologised over the flag-waving incident.

The case sparked a diplomatic row between Taiwan and China after Taiwan's President-elect Tsai Ing-wen extended support to Tzuyu saying that holding a Taiwanese flag is a legitimate expression of national identity.
