"Danji", a web cartoon serviced by Lezhin comics, is launching its second season with another story of domestic violence and sexual discrimination.
The web cartoon's first season, written and drawn in the author's point of view, calmly depicts the author's story. Danji is about a life of a little girl who had to live through domestic violence and sexual discrimination. The web cartoon was mostly loved by female viewers who experienced similar kind of violence and discrimination which is hidden under the surface of South Korean society.
For some viewers, Danji became a sympathetic tool to share the pain they suffered. Many left praises and support for the author and people who are left with mental scar marks from unforgettable violence. The first season of Danji accumulated over 12 million views domestically.
The author, Danji, started off with the new season of her web cartoon on Wednesday. This time, the web cartoon's story is not about the author, but it is from the stories which the viewers have submitted. The author will depict painful stories which could not have been told by the victims themselves.
"During the first season, many have contacted me saying that they have suffered from similar kind of violence and discrimination," said Danji, "I planned the second season to speak on the behalf of those who fear to talk openly about their painful memories."
Almost 500 stories of the viewers were submitted, and a handful which could be told in a web cartoon form was selected. Each selected submitted story will be converted into an episode, its original writer taking the role of the main character.
Danji plans to tell the stories from a disinterested point of view, with suppressed expression of excess feelings. "It's a rule I wish to keep. I believe that's why viewers loved the first season," said Danji, "I wish that Danji become an opportunity for the society to look back and become aware of domestic violence and sexual discrimination. Also work as a tool of consolation for every other Danjis out there. I want the web cartoon to give people a reason to take a moment and think about such matters."
