Microsoft-owned Mojang Studio's "Minecraft" recorded over 100 million of its copies sold. The game, released on all platforms including PC, Mac, consoles, and smartphones, is one of the world's most successful games.

Mojang announced Friday that the studio's open-world game has been sold roughly 53,000 copies a day around the world, since the beginning of the year. More than 40 million people play the game every month, building up a blocky world alone, with friends, or total strangers online.

The studio's official thanked the fans by writing on the website, "We’d like to offer our heartfelt thanks to every one of you who’s bought Minecraft over the past few years, no matter which platform you play on. We’re constantly in awe of our community and the amazing things you achieve together. You really are the best. <3"

Minecraft is an open world exploring game for PC and consoles. It's one of the most played games worldwide. Minecraft also has an educational version which lets teachers and students roam around the landscapes of Minecraft, exploring together while teaching / experimenting with simple computer coding, geography, art, and computer science.

The game was originally developed by Mojang, but Microsoft bought the developer and the game for US$ 2.5 billion in 2014. The game is well known for its openness and expandability. Users can emulate simple computer coding by using elements of the game.

In March, Microsoft announced a project which involves researchers and developers to build artificial intelligence (AI) in Minecraft.
