South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics has unveiled a 1.2 billion US dollar investment plan in the Internet of Things (IoT) business in the United States, reflecting its campaign to create a new IoT ecosystem.

Samsung's plan was disclosed by vice chairman and CEO Kwon Oh-hyun at a forum in Washington on late Tuesday. Samsung also formed a joint advisory group with Intel to develop strategic recommendations for US policymakers.

Kwon said Samsung would seek joint ventures with IoT startups in the United States via its agencies in Silicon Valley.

IoT is a network of physical objects, including vehicles, buildings, and electronic devices, connected to the Internet to exchange data. Samsung and other firms have tried to drive a pro-innovation policy environment that would enable leadership in the global IoT future.
