Google's new lineup of smartphones "Pixel" will be unveiled on October 4, according to a teaser video on YouTube that did not reveal much information about the new smartphone but confirmed rumors about its announcement date.

The news can be very surprising for some since the tech giant was rather quiet about its upcoming smartphones. Plus, its secrecy was well kept because public attention was drawn to the recent launch of Apple's iPhone 7 series and the recall of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7.

Google has produced "Nexus" smartphones in joint operations with smartphone makers such as Samsung, LG, and HTC. The Nexus was Google's Android operating system (OS) reference phone, which means it will be provided with the latest updates faster than any other Android smartphones. Nexus smartphones were loved by many because of its affordable price.

Now, many experts predict that Google may ditch the Nexus lineup, replacing it with the upcoming Pixel series. According to the rumors, the standard version of Pixel's starting price is likely to be set at 649 US dollars. It's a little pricey compared to the Nexus 5X 16GB version sold for $349.

The Pixel smartphones are rumored to be released in two models -- the Pixel XL, a large version with 4K display, and the Pixel, a standard version with FHD (full high definition) display. Both are likely to share the same setups with Snapdragon 820 or 821 processors and will be fitted with 4GB of RAM and 32GB storage.
