Tesla Motors of the United States has narrowly defeated Japan's Toyota to become the maker of longest range zero-emission vehicles in the world.  The US Environmental Protection Agency has designated Tesla's Model S P100D as the world's new champion, according to IT specialist media Engadget.

Every zero-emission vehicles including electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicles share a common problem. They lack in total range per charge or fuelling when compared to conventional fossil-fuel driven vehicles.

Telsa's Model S and Model X have increased their total cruising range with an upgraded 100kWh battery pack.  The Model S with an upgraded battery recorded 506 kilometers (315 miles), beating Toyota's hydrogen fuel-cell driven Mirai by just about five kilometers.

Telsa has gained global attention by producing its electric sports model, the Telsa Roadster, followed by the Model S, an electric luxury sedan. Tesla's Model 3, which can run 346 kilometers (215 miles) on a single charge, will be available by late 2017.

The US company started receiving pre-orders from South Korean consumers last month. Its showroom will be set up in November at Starfield Hanam, a gigantic shopping mall which opened earlier this month in an eastern satellite city of Seoul.
