The Danish capital of Copenhagen has brought a copy of its iconic bronze statue "The Little Mermaid" to a waterside park in Seoul in an effort to promote friendship and cooperation between the two cities.

The statue was unveiled Monday in a ceremony led by Danish prime minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Seoul city mayor Park Won-soon.

The original statue by Edvard Eriksen is displayed on a rock by the waterside in Copenhagen. The sculpture, based on a fairy tale written by Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, been a major tourist attraction since 1913. The copy, made by the Eriksen family, weighs 150 kilograms, about 80 percent of the size of the original in Copenhagen.
