Samsung Electronics released its new budget smartphone, Galaxy On7, at home Wednesday, with a metal frame surrounding a composite reinforced glass body after Galaxy Note 7 disappeared due to combustible batteries.

Galaxy On7 has a display size of 5.5-inch, larger than the company's previous flagship Galaxy S7's 5.1-inch display. It is priced at 399,000 won (341 US dollars) about half the price of the former flagship.

The budget phone has a fingerprint sensor as well as 1.3-megapixel rear and eight-megapixel front cameras. It supports Samsung's mobile payment system "Samsung Pay", a feature commonly supported by the company's flagship smartphones.

"Galaxy On7 is an attractive smartphone with essential features such as classy metal design, high-end cameras and fingerprint sensor for security," a Samsung official said in a statement.

Galaxy On7 is fitted with a 3,300mAh battery which is large enough to have the phone used in an ordinary manner for almost two days without charging. It has an internal memory capacity of 16 gigabytes and an octa-core processor suited for light users.

The new smartphone would work as a temporary sales booster for Samsung a time when its brand image has been seriously hurt by a global debacle due to Note 7's faulty parts. The company suspended Note 7's global sales and production in September, leaving it smartphone lineup absent of new models to keep sales flowing.
