A top South Korean cinema franchise will jointly produce a Hollywood film titled "We Kill Death" in 270 degrees for the first time in the world in a new home-made format called Screen X, starring prominent urban climbers.
CJ CGV, the developer of Screen X, said the film would be produced by Alex A. Ginzburg who created "Hardcore Henry", a first-person-point-of-view action film. It will be directed by Eric Brevig who created computer graphics (CG) for Hollywood films "Men in Black" and "The Lost World".
"We Kill Death" is a disaster film starring urban explorers such as Vitaliy Raskalov and Oleg Cricket, a rooftop-jumping free runner and YouTube star. CGV said some parts of the movie would be filmed by the Ukrainian explorer himself on top of high-rise buildings.
The urban climber is famous for climbing the world's iconic city structures such as Shanghai Tower, approximately 632 meters (2,073 feet) tall with bare hands, and Seoul's 610-meter Lotte Tower in April.
The film will be made into an ordinary format and Screen X, a CGV exclusive theater with three screens installed side by side to provide a wider angle of view. CGV plans to start filming during the first half of next year and screening in the latter half.
The company plans to screen more Screen X films next year, including "The Great Wall", a Chinese fantasy movie starring Matt Damon, and Jacky Chan's comedy film "Kung Fu Yoga".
CGV hopes to set up a global network of theaters by releasing about 40 films every year, though a fan reaction is not so enthusiastic..
