Smartphone sales of South Korea's second largest electronics company LG have been all downhill from a few years ago. The time for revenge may come in March with its new flagship "G6".

Various media reports suggest LG will officially release the G6 smartphone on March 10 after its unpacking event at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2017 next month in Spain. In an apparent bid to secure an upper hand in the market, LG's new flagship will come a month earlier that Samsung's new "Galaxy S8", rumored to be released in April.

Details of G6's specs were not disclosed,  but there has been speculation that it will be installed with waterproof housing, a QHD+ (1440x2880 resolution) display, wireless charging and an AI (artificial Intelligence) backed smart assistant called "Q Voice".D

Industry watchers agree that LG is in a desperate situation because of miserable sales of its four previous flagships -- "G4", "G5", "V10" and "V20".

As of the end of last year, LG has shipped about 1.1 million V20s since its release in September 2016 while Samsung had shipped some 8.1 million units of its combustible Galaxy Note 7 for two months until a global recall was pledged in September last year.

Now, experts and tech fans alike are paying close attention on LG's new flagship, wondering if it could dethrone Samsung in the smartphone race. Samsung's Galaxy S8 will be packed with consumer-alluring features such as a larger display, an iris scanner, and a dual-lens camera.

They predict that if LG revises its high-price policy, its new smartphone can maintain its competitive edge.
