A set of pictures uploaded on Weibo, the Chinese counterpart of Facebook, showed a plume of black smoke sprouting from a factory run by the battery-making subsidiary of South Korean smartphone maker Samsung Electronics.
A Weibo user claimed to have taken his pictures on Wednesday morning.
A Samsung official told Aju News that the fire started at a waste storing facility and it was put under control, causing no suspension of battery production.
The suspected fire at Samsung SDI's battery plant in Tianjin sparked concern about a possible delay in production of Samsung's new flagship smartphone Galaxy S8. There have been reports that Samsung may launch S8 in March.
Some experts, however, say there may be no change in S8's launch because Samsung has already acquired enough batteries for its S8 smartphone.
