Rumors about Apple adding a wireless charging feature to its upcoming iPhone 8 could actually be true as the California-based tech giant has joined a multi-national technology group, Wireless Power Consortium (WPC).

According to the consortium, Apple has joined WPC last week. Previously, there were many rumors claiming that the company would adopt a long-range wireless charging method, but now many experts speculate it would be Qi's inductive charging which requires the phone to contact a charging pad.

Qi wireless charging is widely used by Apple's rival Samsung on its flagships Galaxy and Note series. If Apple adopts the simple charging method, it would be compatible with the currently available charging pads.

Apple traditionally has been close-mouthed to prevent any leakage of information on before a new product. It did not disclose any details on its iPhone 8.

Some experts predict the new smartphone to be released in a few months. Ming-Chi Kuo, a specialist from an analyst group KGI, speculated in a recent report that the new iPhone would feature a 4.7-inch display with a larger battery.
