A loaded pistol belonging to a wasted presidential security guard has been lost and found near the home of South Korea's expelled president Park Geun-hye, police said Wednesday.,

An unnamed security officer left a loaded pistol in a restaurant toilet at a building near Park's house in southern Seoul last week. Later, a resident in the area came across the gun and reported to the building's manager and police. Police returned it to the security guard later.

The presidential security team explained it was a mistake caused by one of its over-fatigued members who had to withstand an endless 24-hour shift due to protests near Park's home.

After Park was expelled from her office, she moved into her private home on March 12. Since then, supporters have maintained vigil around the clock or staged protests every day near Park's home.

Owning a firearm is prohibited in South Korea.  Selected ownership is allowed only for game hunting and sports, but the owners should take cyclical license tests and keep their weapons at police stations.
