Fitbit, fitness tracker, proved a murder that happened on December 23, 2015, in Connecticut, USA.

Richard Dabate, a 40-year-old computer technician, was found zip-tied to a chair in the kitchen of his home in Connecticut by the local authorities. His wife's lifeless body was found in the basement of the house. Dabate told the detectives that he returned home from work that day because a security alarm was tripped. He said a home intruder ambushed him when he entered his home and held him captive until his wife returned home from the gym. Dabate claimed that he tried to warn his wife, Connie Dabate, to run away but the robber chased after her and shot her. He stated the intruder used "pressure point" techniques to disable him, tied him to a chair, stabbed with a knife, and burned him with a blowtorch according to the court files. When Dabate fought back and turned the torch back to the intruder, the assailant fled.

However, when the investigators started following up on his story, nothing really matched up. The blood stains in the house told a different story. Also, the detectives found that Dabate had a pregnant mistress who he promised that he would divorce his wife.

Another clue that solidified the investigators' case against Richard Dabate was when they unearthed fitness tracking data from Fitbit Connie was wearing, The data showed that she was moving around an hour after the time Dabate claimed the robber killed her.

Dabate was charged with murder in earlier this month and is free after posting the $1 million bail. Dabate did not say much in the hearing on Friday, April 28, and his attorneys remained their stance on his innocence.

It is unclear how much of the technological evidence will be used in the trial due to the privacy issue.
