Moon Jae-in, a leading candidate in South Korea's presidential race, appealed for "overwhelming" support from voters so that he could push for far-reaching reforms and ride out diplomatic and economic crises.

The former human rights lawyer is surveyed to become the country's next leader in Tuesday's presidential election but he thinks he must win by a big margin over other candidates.

"After today, we would all see a new president and a new world," Moon said in a speech, suggesting that with overwhelming support, he could have a stable start as president. "My goal is not a simple regime change but a new country. With overwhelming support, you can make a miraculous change."

South Korea is now faced with an "unprecedented complex" crisis, Moon said, describing reform as the only solution. "Give me the strength to overcome our national crisis," he said.

Moon commands strong support from liberal voters but he has slightly revised his stance to gain broad support from voters.
