The daughter of jailed ex-president Park Geun-hye's crony who played a key role in a corruption scandal will be repatriated from Denmark to South Korea this week for an investigation by prosecutors.

The Justice Ministry said Chung Yoo-ra, 21, would arrive in South Korea on Wednesday after she dropped her appeal against an extradition order. She has been in custody in Denmark since she was arrested in January on charges of illegal stay.

Prosecutors have wanted her extradition for questioning over allegations that she took undue favors from Ewha Womans University regarding admission and academic affairs by taking advantage of close ties between her mother and Park. Chung's mother was indicted for meddling in state affairs and siphoning off money from two public foundations created with corporate cash donations.

Samsung Electronics vice chairman Jay Y. Lee is on trial on multiple charges including bribery and embezzlement over his alleged money-for-favor exchange with Park. The country's largest conglomerate is suspected of bankrolling Chung's equestrian training in Germany.
