A disabled Samsung employee has been arrested for using his wheelchair to steal thousands of smartphones for lab experiments. The crime came to an end when Samsung discovered stolen products in Vietnam and launched an internal investigation.

Police said Wednesday that a 35-year-old Samsung man identified by his surname Lee and a 34-year-old secondhand dealer identified as Cho were arrested on charges of embezzlement.

Lee was accused of smuggling 8,474 experimental smartphones out of a Samsung research center south of Seoul from December 2014 to November last year to settle his debt estimated at 900 million won (712,200 US dollars). He allegedly used his electric wheelchair to carry up to 70 phones each time through security.

The duo was accused of earning about 300 million won in profit by selling stolen phones to overseas dealers.
