The much-anticipated Netflix movie "Okja" was leaked online upon its release on the US streaming service on Thursday, the company said.

According to Netflix, the movie depicting the friendship between a genetically modified "super pig" named Okja and a farm girl was available on Torrent and other sites for illegal downloading. But this is not the first time that Netflix's original content has been leaked online.

Lots of Netflix's original series, including "House of Cards," were leaked previously to illegal downloading services. "We received reports from our subscribers about Okja's illegal leakage," a Netflix official said. "Based on the reports, we're now studying how to respond to this while checking if there were any infringement of rights."

The new international film by South Korean director Bong Joon-ho opened simultaneously on Netflix earlier in the day. In South Korea, it is available on 103 screens at 79 venues, excluding the three big multi-screen cinema chains -- CJ CGV, Lotte Cinema and Megabox.
