Samsung will allow the users of its digital wallet service platform "Samsung Pay" to choose PayPal, the online payment platform king with about 2000 million users, in a bid to cement its position in the fast-growing industry that has been strongly challenged by US and Chinese firms.

The South Korean tech giant said Tuesday that it formed a strategic partnership with PayPal for Samsung Pay users.

Samsung said in a statement that its users will be able to gain access to PayPal for "payment in millions of stores". The new service will start in the United States and Samsung plans to gradually expand its service to the rest of the world.

Juniper Research, a market analyzing company, estimated earlier this year that the value of the global digital market will reach 1.35 trillion US dollars this year. Compared to US and Chinese contenders -- PayPal, Apple Pay, Ali Pay -- Samsung Pay lacks in the number of users and the countries the service is operated in. Samsung Pay is currently available in South Korea, the US, China, Canada and a dozen other countries.
