After a five-month field test, ten smart guide and cleaning robots developed by LG Electronics were put into trial service at Incheon International Airport, South Korea's gateway west of Seoul.

LG said that five guide robots and five cleaning robots were deployed at the airport's terminal. The guide robots equipped with LG's voice recognition platform provide boarding and other information in four languages -- Korean, English, China and Japanese.

Using the airport's central server, the guides can scan a boarding pass quickly and escort late or lost passengers to their departure gate on time.

LG said in a statement that he cleaning robots equipped with an autonomous navigation system and object-avoidance capability can be applied to a commercial, public environment. "This robot detects the areas that require the most frequent cleaning, stores those locations in its database and calculates the most efficient routes to get there."
