Melon, an online music service operated by South Korean web service giant Kakao, started its tailored music search service, "Smart I", using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The service uses a Melon smartphone app.

The service utilizes big data to engage in a conversation-like search process with voice commands such as "find a song by Psy that suits the hot weather," or "play a folk song sung by IU".

AI-based voice search and voice assistant features are a new trend in the global internet of things (IoT) industry. The size of AI assistant market is predicted to reach about 11 billion US dollars by 2024. Google, Amazon and Samsung have adapted voice assistant features using vast neural networks, and they apply their technology to online shopping and content-searching services in the form of smartphone apps and standalone speakers.
