Spain suffered two attacks in a row since Thursday. The first attack in Barcelona shook Spain as the death toll climbed to 13 and around 100 people were injured. A van driven by ISIS terrorist plowed through the crowd in Las Ramblas, a popular tourist destination in Barcelona. The driver drove in zigzag in an attempt to hit as many pedestrians as possible. The van driver managed to escape and the authorities are still investigating the possible suspects.

The world was in disbelief as Spain was the highly unlikely country to be a target as the nation did not actively partake in the fight against ISIS like other European countries.

Soon after the attack was publicized on media, ISIS claimed they were responsible for the heinous attack. 10 days before the attack, ISIS released a video asking its followers to actively attack using vehicles. In the video, a bearded terrorist says in English his fellow Jihadists should "punish them for their crimes against the Muslims", and he added, "kill them wherever you find them" and "ram their crowds until the streets run with their filthy blood".

The vehicular attacks seem to be ISIS's current favored tactics. The UK also suffered two attacks, Westminster in March and London Bridge in June this year. The most severe vehicular attack was in France last year when Mohamed Bouhlel rammed a 19-ton truck into a Bastille Day crowd in Nice, France. He killed 86 people and injured 458.

Internationally the death toll inflicted by ISIS is increasing every year.

Eight hours after the attack in Barcelona, an Audi A3 rammed into the crowd in Cambrils, a little coastal city located southwest of Barcelona. A woman died later in a hospital and six people got injured including a police officer.

Five attackers exited the car wearing fake suicide belts and charged at the police officers. An off-duty policewoman who was on a vacation opened fired at the terrorists, killing four successfully as they charged at her. The fifth terrorist was also taken down soon after by multiple officers at the scene. Reportedly the attackers were on drugs called Captagon that are often used by ISIS terrorists for the adrenaline boost.

The Spanish authorities believe that the two attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils are connected. As the investigation continues, the authorities believe that the terrorists who are of Morrocan origin may be responsible for an explosion in Alcanar, a city south of Barcelona.
