Despite being slapped with a fine of 8,900 US dollars in April for providing illegal taxi services, US car-sharing company Uber started a new premium call-taxi lease service in Seoul.

"Uber Trip", a derivative service of Uber's premium taxi-hailing service "Uber Black", provides lease from a minimum service time of five hours to 12 hours. The company said the service would be very useful for those who want to drop by multiple destinations in a limited time.

For five hours, a user can drop by multiple spots for a price of 120,000 won (105 US dollars), Uber said in a media statement. An additional fee will be charged if the user wants a longer service.

The American company first launched its taxi-hailing service in South Korea in 2013 but suspended its business due to stiff resistance from Seoul city authorities and competing taxi companies. In April this year, a court found Uber guilty of providing illegal tax services in a suit filed by city officials and taxi drivers.

Uber currently operates multiple car-sharing businesses in South Korea including Uber Black and "UberASSIST", a special service for seniors and people with disabilities.  It also launched "UberEATS" a food delivery service earlier this month.
