President Moon Jae-in will receive this year's Global Citizen Awards by the Atlantic Council, a prominent US think tank in the field of international affairs, for his contribution to democracy.

The Atlantic Council, one of the most influential think tanks in the United States, provides a forum for international political, business, and intellectual leaders

Moon will receive the award at a ceremony next week during his visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly, his office said. The two other winners are Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Chinese pianist Lang Lang.

"President Moon is implementing strong reform policies to resolve daunting, major issues ranging from eradicating deep-rooted problems that exist in the political and economic system to addressing the North Korean nuclear crisis and creating jobs," the council said on its website. Previous award winners include former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
