Park Sung-hyun said she felt "surreal" when she became the first LPGA rookie to become the world's No. 1 in women's golf rankings.

"I am a little dazed by the sudden announcement. It feels so surreal. I think this is an honor to my family," the 24-year-old said in a statement released by her agency on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old replaced veteran South Korean player Ryu So-yeon and took the top place in the world ranking on Monday. She is the fourth South Korean to reach No. 1, after Shin Ji- yai , Park In-bee and Ryu.

Park said that her persistent, humble and hard-working mind has led her to achieve her goal faster than she has dreamed of. The top rookie vowed to stay unchanged and move forward. "I will always play golf with this kind of mind."

The super rookie who has already clinched the LPGA rookie of the year title has won two LPGA Tour tournaments including this year's U.S. Women's Open. She is also on the top of LPGA's 2017 season money list with an accumulated prize money of 2,1 million US dollars.
