GFriend picked as fastest growing K-pop group by MTV Europe Music Awards

GFriend, a popular girl band, was awarded the "Best Korea Act" at MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA), beating contestants such as HIGHLIGHT, MAMAMOO and Wanna One.

MTV, a global cable music channel, described GFriend as a rising K-pop star who is fast gaining international recognition. MTV EMA is an event hosted by Viacom International Media Networks Europe to honor artists and music in pop culture.

The six-member group was also nominated for the Best Korea Act last year, but B.A.P, a boy band, took the honor. This year, GFriend competed with popular bands -- HIGHLIGHT, MAMAMOO, Seventeen and Wanna One.

GFriend, which debuted in 2015, has gained a strong fan base with a streak of hit songs including "Rough", "LOVE WHISPER" and "NAVILERRA". The group received international spotlight in 2015 when it was selected by Billboard as a "Top 5 K-Pop Artists to Watch.
