Hundreds of high school students were given a surprise gift of fried chickens by a food franchise group for the heroic deeds of three swimmers who saved a drowning woman from a car sinking into a lake.

"Help!" a woman's piercing scream rang across a lake in Chuncheon some 75 kilometers (46 miles) east of Seoul on November 1. Luckily, three students who earned medals in amateur swimming were on training in a nearby area.

While many onlookers stood by, the three students quickly jumped into the icy cold lake to save the women. bhc, one of South Korea's popular fried chicken franchises, picked the three students from Chuncheon Physical Education High School as "bhc Heroes".

The company said in a statement Monday that friend chicken boxes were given to all students at their school.
