SEOUL, Jan. 08 (Aju News) -- Prosecutors filed for a court order Monday to freeze assets held by jailed former president Park Geun-hye for confiscation if she is convicted of taking state money from South Korea's main spy agency for personal use.

The prosecutor's office in Seoul said that the freeze would affect Park's wealth including her home and three billion won (2.8 million US dollars) worth of checks kept by her lawyer. Park purchased her home in southern Seoul for 2.8 billion won.

Last week, Park was additionally indicted for accepting some 3.65 billion won from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) between May 2013 and July 2016. Prosecutors claimed the NIS fund was used for private purposes.

Park is on trial on charges of abusing her power and conspiring with her jailed crony, Choi Soon-sil, to extort money from Samsung and other top conglomerates in return for business favors.

Prosecutors demanded a 25-year jail term for Choi, accusing her of causing a state crisis by abusing power and controlling government affairs arbitrarily for her personal interests. They also urged the court to impose a fine of 118.5 billion won and forfeit 7.7 billion won from Choi. The verdict will come on January 26.

Choi, 61, has been indicted on charges of meddling in state affairs, siphoning off money from two public foundations created with cash donations from dozens of conglomerates. She has been at the center of a corruption scandal that sparked massive candle-lit protest and led to the impeachment of Park.
