SEOUL, Jan. 09 (Aju News) --  Samsung Electronics has upgraded its autonomous driving technology by unveiling a new platform of hardware and software that allows personal customization through open modular systems.

Samsung unveiled "DRVLINE", a new premium hardware and software platform for autonomous vehicles, at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week. The company said DRVLINE would allow vendors to swap and customize individual parts to meet required specifications and technology.

"Building an autonomous platform requires close collaboration across industry, as one company cannot deliver on this enormous opportunity alone," Samsung's chief strategy officer Sohn Young said in a statement, adding his company would invite various partners to work with and help "shape the future of the car of tomorrow, today".

In Las Vegas, a forward-facing camera system for autonomous driving created by Samsung and Harman International Industries, a US-based global leader in connected car technology, was introduced as a DRVLINE component.

The new camera module was designed to meet New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) standards that include lane departure warning, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking.  Samsung said the module would help an autonomous vehicle compute for the highest level of automation.

Samsung acquired Harman in early 2017. The two have unveiled the industry's first 5G antenna to provide fast data connections for connected cars and a Digital Cockpit for autonomous cars which provide personal customization and display car controls and other information on a center screen or multiple screens.
