SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Aju News) -- Samsung hopes to take the upper hand in the smartphone war by arming its new flagship Galaxy S9, to be released in the first quarter of this year, with the most powerful slow-motion filming feature, according to online media reports.

Samsung remained tight-lipped, refusing to leak any vital information about S9, but there have been media reports that the new flagship would have a dual-lens camera with "Super Slow-mo", a video feature that takes about five times more frames per second than rival smartphones.

The feature was first mentioned by ETnews, a South Korean IT news outlet, which reported in September last year that Samsung has started producing the new three-layer camera module capable of shooting 1,000 frames per second.

Many high-end smartphones feature some kind of slow-motion filming features but Samsung's technology appeared to be advanced. Apple's iPhone supports slow motion filming but only up to 240 frames per second. Sony has the most powerful slow motion feature with the speed of 960 frames per second.

Phonearena, a specialist media outlet, uploaded the leaked image of an alleged Galaxy S9 retail box three days ago. The specification sheet on the back of the box showed the camera with a 12-megapixel resolution and a variable aperture which provides brighter and sharper images than other camera lenses with fixed apertures.

Because smartphones have replaced conventional digital cameras and video filming equipment, an ability to take better pictures and videos has been a crucial element in buying new smartphones.
