SEOUL, Feb. 07 (Aju News) --  Asiana Airlines, South Korea's second-largest airline company, posted a record net profit in six years in 2017 thanks to increased long-distance and cargo flights.

Asiana said Wednesday that its net profit soared 325 percent on-year to 223.3 billion won (205.4 million US dollars) in 2017.

Last year, Asiana was struck hard by reduced flights on its key air route between Seoul and Beijing when China imposed a ban on group travels to South Korea in March in a retaliatory action against the deployment of an American missile defense system.

To offset the reduced number of Chinese tourists, Asiana increased flights on long-distance routes to the United States and Europe, adding its new jumbo passenger jets to carry more passengers and cargo. This year, the company plans to increase cargo flights to India and Vietnam, citing their IT-related cargo demands.
