SEOUL, Feb. 08 (Aju News) -- As a North Korean art troupe got off a ferry to rehearse at a security-tight art center in the eastern port city of Gangneung this week, Hyon Song-wol, the troupe's female leader stood out among others, wearing a black coat and a black fur scarf while other members were clad in red coats and black fur hats.

But it wasn't her clothes which caught the eyes of curious South Koreans. Something extraordinary hung by her side -- a Chanel bag. Hyon heads a girl band formed by leader Kim Jong-un who has handed out luxury gifts in a bid to win loyalty from the North's ruling elite.

Luxury brands and jewelry are included in the list of items prohibited under U.N sanctions. South Korean media carried Hyon's photographs to see if her Chanel bag was a knockoff but could not come to a conclusion.
