SEOUL -- A consortium led by South Korea's Ssangyong Engineering & Construction has secured an order worth 740 million US dollars to build an integrated 1,800-bed smart hospital in Singapore, the builder said Thursday.

Ssangyong Engineering said the consortium involving its Korean partner, Daewoo Engineering & Construction, and Koh Brothers of Singapore would build the Woodlands Health Campus (WHC) for 33 months. The order was placed by Singapore's health ministry.

Ssangyong and Daewoo hold 40 percent of the joint venture each and the remaining 20 percent controlled by the Singaporean company.

The campus, which is expected to open in 2022, will have both acute and community hospitals, a nursing home and specialist clinics. In a ground-breaking ceremony in April last year, Singapore Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said the campus can meet the challenge of growing demand from an aging population while facing manpower constraints.
