SEOUL -- South Korean builder Samsung C&T has secured an order worth about 510 billion won (477 million US dollars) to build a power plant in Indonesia.
Samsung C&T said in a statement Friday that it has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build a 1,760 megawatt combined cycle power plant in Cilamaya, about 100 kilometers east of Jakarta, by September 2021.
Samsung C&T said it formed a joint venture agreement with General Electric Power and PT. Meindo Elang Indah (Meindo). If completed, the Jawa 1 plant can supply electricity to some 11 million homes.
The $1.0 billion project in Cilamaya will be developed by PT Jawa Satu Power, a consortium of PT Pertamina (Persero), Marubeni Corporation, and Sojitz Corporation.
The Jawa 1 plant is part of Indonesia's 35,000 MW electrification program. It would be the biggest combined cycle power plant in Southeast Asia.
