SEOUL -- Doosan GridTech, a Seattle-based software and solutions provider, has been selected to deliver a battery energy storage system for American energy provider Consumers Energy.

Doosan GridTech, a U.S. subsidiary of South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, said that the storage system would be deployed at the Colony Farm substation in Kalamazoo, Michigan with a capacity of one megawatt which is enough energy to power 1,000 homes for an hour.

Doosan Heavy said the deal is worth less than 1.8 million US dollars.

Doosan GridTech said the deal solidified its position as the leader in utility-integrated storage systems. "We are honored that Consumers Energy has chosen us to deliver one of their first battery energy storage systems," CEO Choi Dae-jin Choi said in a statement posted on the company's website.

"More than 40 percent of the energy we produce will come from renewable sources and energy storage by 2040, so this battery storage project is an important step today," Consumers Energy's senior vice president Jean-Francois Brossoit said.

"We look forward to innovating with Doosan GridTech to help meet our new clean energy goal while still providing safe, reliable and affordable energy to Michigan homes and businesses."
