SEOUL -- Jaguar Land Rover, a British carmaker known for sport utility vehicle (SUV) brand Land Rover, will use Samsung SDI batteries for its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

Jaguar plans to release New Range Rover PHEV in the latter half of this year, auto industry officials said. New Range Rover is an iconic luxury SUV model and its PHEV model features a connected smart system which provides convenient driving experience.

Along with Samsung SDI, which supplies batteries to other carmakers such as BMW and Volkswagen, LG Chem provides batteries to Jaguar for I-PACE, a full electric SUV, demonstrating the reliability of South Korean batteries.

"Battery is the most important part of an electric vehicle. The reason why Jaguar chose South Korean companies is that their batteries are good," an industry official said.
