SEOUL -- Many fans visited online dictionary websites when South Korea's popular boy group BTS released "Singularity", a comeback trailer for its new album "LOVE YOURSELF: TEAR" that will be unveiled on May 18 ahead of its performance at Billboard Awards.
The trailer featuring V, a BTS member, is an appetizer for fans. When it was uploaded onto YouTube Monday, it was watched more than 14 million times and garnered more than 314,000 comments. At the same time, Google's global keyword search for "singularity" soared.
Because BTS has many global fans who are not familiar with the English word, many visited online dictionary services to see what singularity means. According to Dictionary.com, an online dictionary service, searches for the meaning of singularity have skyrocketed 1,093 percent since BTS released the trailer. Merriam-Webster, a popular dictionary service, said singularity was its top search keyword on Monday.
