SEOUL -- South Korea's entertainment and food conglomerate, CJ Group, will establish Asia's largest video-commerce center in Vietnam this year as a regional base to provide contents targeting Southeast Asian clients.
The group will launch CJ ENM, a new company in July by merging its online shopping wing, CJ O Shopping, and CJ E&M, an entertainment and contents unit, to compete with global contents providers such as Walt Disney and Time Warner.
CJ ENM said in a statement on Thursday that it would establish a center called "DADA Studio" in Ho Chi Minh City to create about 1,000 Vcommerce contents a month. Vcommerce is a compound word of video and commerce and the contents are short promotional video optimized for mobile platforms. Because of low cost and easy access, they are popular among companies to promote products targeting young consumers.
"DADA Studio will create Vcommerce contents and carry out promotions using CJ E&M's distribution channels. By doing so, we can reach more consumers," a CJ O Shopping official said in the statement.
Many global companies eye Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries because they have a large population of tech-savvy young consumers with increasing spending capacity, according to Australia-based market research firm Nielsen.
