SEOUL -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in will make a three-day state visit to Russia this month following a historic summit between U.S. and North Korean leaders in Singapore.

Moon's trip to Moscow will begin on June 21 and his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin will include denuclearization, peace on the Korean peninsula and economic cooperation between Seoul and Moscow, the president's office said Friday.

It will be Moon's second trip to Russia. At the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok in September last year, Moon outlined his initiative to set up a Northeast Asia power grid that would also encompass Japan, China and Russia as part of his proposal to establish an economic community in Northeast Asia.

Moon regards Russia as a crucial partner for his "New Northward Policy" to open a new era of cooperation in Northeast Asia and supports Putin's "Super Ring" plan to build energy links between its Far East and the Asia Pacific region.

Russia and South Korea have discussed cooperation in gas-pipeline and other projects. Earlier projects to build inland gas pipelines and railways from Russia to South Korea were scrapped due to Pyongyang's nuclear and missile development.
